DEAF SERVICES IS A LEADING

NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANISATION PROVIDING SUPPORT TO DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING AUSTRALIANS ACROSS ALL AGE GROUPS.

 

With a vision of individuals and community empowered, connected and achieving, Deaf Services delivers programs and supports to enable the Deaf community to live full and independent lives.
 

Deaf Services works with all Australians to create a more inclusive, accessible and equitable community through information referrals, advocacy and education. 
 

With over 110 years of experience working with Deaf Australians, Deaf Services continues to deliver for the community as a registered service provider under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and an approved provider of home care for seniors.

CommUNITY 

Following the rebrand and structural changes for Deaf Services' CommUNITY team in 2017, the service has continued to provide community support and manage internal referrals for the organisation.

A focus on adapting transdisciplinary programs to suit the NDIS and provision of pre-planning sessions to parents has resulted in 46 participants accessing support through the NDIS, compared to 13 in the previous 12 months.

LIFESTYLE SUPPORT

SERVICE 

This year LSS employed 30 staff across Brisbane, Ipswich, Townsville, Toowoomba and the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, and delivers an average of 525 hours of support each week. ​

AGEING WELL 

Over the past year, Ageing Well has increased the number of home care clients by 69%, while also increasing the number of clients receiving care through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme by 150%.

EDUCATION 

The rollout of the NDIS has had a significant impact on the Auslan at Home service with 81 classes delivered to families this financial year. These classes offer families of Deaf and hard of hearing NDIS participants access to a learning program tailored to

suit their needs.

LANGUAGE 

SERVICES 

Auslan Connections continues to invest in innovative ways of meeting the language needs of Deaf and hard of hearing clients. The service has seen an additional 1,800 hours of work over the last two years as a result of the NDIS rollout in key regions; Townsville, Ipswich and Toowoomba.
